Indy Parks and Recreation

Eagle Creek Park – iNaturalist Demonstration

Be a citizen scientist by recording nature observations through iNaturalist! We’ll g go over the basics of using iNaturalist inside, and then we’ll head out onto the trail to ID wildflowers and other plants and animals and add them to the Indianapolis City Nature Challenge: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2019-indianapolis

Join iNaturalist ahead of time and upload the iNaturalist app to your phone to get a jump start: www.inaturalist.org (photo observations can also be uploaded over a computer). To make observations you’ll need a phone camera or regular camera. Free with park admission ($5/vehicle Marion County resident, $6/vehicle out of county).

Wildflower Weekend

Become a Citizen Scientist at Eagle Creek Park during our first ever Wildflower Weekend! Join us for naturalist led hikes and public programs, all guided programs are free unless listed otherwise (Wildflower Yoga and Canoe trip have a fee). Hikes will vary between beginner level wildflower identification to intermediate level with our expert partners at DNR Division of Nature Preserves.

Make your own observations as well, helping us document the spring wildflower diversity of the park. Spring is also a wonderful time to observe wildlife, join us on a bird walk and “Garlic Mustard pull”, too!

Broad Ripple Park – Trailblazer Challenge

The local FIRST robotics team (Tindley Trailblazers @FRC6721) from TIndley Accelerated School will be exploring the park and giving iNaturalist demos.

Great Indy Cleanup

It’s time for Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s annual April Great Indy Cleanup! Let’s get together for some large-scale spring cleaning with My Christian Park in Christian Park, tackling litter abatement, native plant installation, tree planting, a mural, and more. We’ll provide breakfast and a 2019 Great Indy Cleanup t-shirt. Join us for a high impact morning supporting neighborhood cleaning and greening!

Me, Myself & iNaturalist

Participate in the Indianapolis City Nature Challenge, a citizen science project in which YOU help monitor biodiversity through the use of the iNaturalist app. Never used it? No problem! The naturalist staff will explain how to use the app before we explore our trails. Smart phone required to use the app, but not required for the hike! Wear comfortable hiking shoes and meet at the Delaware Lake parking area.
